A junior from Painesville, Ohio, Gillette is double-majoring in political science and history. Her leadership journey began as a student senator and a member of the Senate Wellness Committee. When asked about her decision to attend BW, she explained, "I chose BW because of the small class sizes and the student-to-professor ratio. Due to having such a close relationship with my peers and professors, I have become much more comfortable interacting with others and have found how to thrive in a public setting."

Engel, a sophomore from Miamisburg, Ohio, is also double-majoring in political science and history. Alongside his new leadership responsibilities, Engel serves as an orientation leader, is an honorary Delta Zeta "DZ" Dude and participates in Model NATO. He chose BW "due to the vibrant and diverse community on campus that welcomes all and works to build a brighter future."

By working with faculty, staff and students, the newly elected leaders will tackle key campus initiatives and aim to strengthen the Baldwin Wallace student experience. They are planning to create meaningful accessibility improvements on campus, in collaboration with the students most affected. They also intend to find new ways to support BW's many student organizations.

In his March 9 Monday Morning Message regarding the inauguration ceremony, BW President Lee Fisher wrote, "When BW students step into any leadership role, they learn firsthand how to listen, collaborate, debate respectfully, and make hard decisions . . . The BW student leadership experience encourages curiosity, civic engagement, and an ability to navigate uncertainty—in short, the skills that define BW's promise of graduating students who are truly leader-ready, career-ready, and future-ready."

The entire BW community joins in congratulating Gillette and Engel and looks forward to seeing their vision unfold over the coming year. The duo was officially inaugurated in February and will serve through the spring 2027 election.
